Alexandrite: Generally stable to light, heat & chemicals. Do not boil. It is okay with sonic, but should be careful with ultrasonic.
Amber: Easily damaged by heat, pressure, and chemicals. It can either be soaked or wiped in soapy water. Do not ultrasonic.
Amethyst: Avoid strong heat & abrupt temperature changes. Boiling & ultrasonic should be done with care not to "shock" stone.? It can be soaked in ammonia and brush.
Andalustie: Do not boil. It is okay with ultrasonic.
Apatite: Heat and strong light can cause color to change or fade. Do not boil and no ultrasonic neither.
Aquamarine: Do not boil. Ultrasonic with caution and jewelers should check for inclusions. It is okay with sonic. But acids can cause damage, especially hydrofluoric. It can be soaked in ammonia and brush. Brush accent gems and water-pik with warm and soapy water.
Cat' Eye: Generally stable. It is okay with sonic cleaning, but can not be boiled or ultrasonic.
Citrine: Strong heat, such as jewelers torch, may destroy color. It is better to turn to jewelers to do the boiling and ultrasonic cleaning with care. It can be soaked in ammonia, brush and water-pik.
Coral: Organic material, soft & often dyed. Do not boil, ultrasonic or use chemicals. It should be cleaned with soapy water. Brush accent stones and clean with water-pik.
Diamond: Untreated diamonds can be boiled and ultrasonic. Soak in ammonia, brush and water-pik. While fracture-filled diamonds must be treated with care. Jeweler's torch can remove fillings-let him know if you know your diamond is filled!
Diopside: Do not boil or ultrasonic. It is very heat-sensitive and should not be exposed to hydrofluoric acid. Soak in ammonia and brush.
Emerald: It is usually filled with oil or resins, which might be removed with cleaning. It should be cleaned with extreme care. It can not be boiled or ultrasonic. Rinse, brush and water-pik with warm and soapy water.
Garnet: Gentle boiling is okay if temperature is shock avoided. Hydrofluoric acid and torch should be avoided. It is okay with sonic and the ultrasonic should be used with care. Soak in ammonia and brush.
Lolite: Gentle boiling and ultrasonic is okay, avoiding thermal shock and acids. Soak in ammonia, brush and water-pik.
Jady: Often polished with wax finish. High heat, solvents, acids and strong light should be avoided. Soak briefly in ammonia, brush and water-pik.
Kunzite: Do not boil or ultrasonic. Heat and strong light can change color. Hydrofluoric acid should be avoided. Soak in ammonia, rinse and brush.
Lapis Lazuli: Do not boil or ultrasonic. Avoid heat, solvents, acids and strong detergents. It should be cleaned gently with soapy water.
Malachite: Do not boil or ultrasonic. Avoid heat, solvents and acids. It should be cleaned gently with soapy water.
Opal: Very delicate and heat sensitive. Do not boil or ultrasonic. Avoid all solvents, acids, heat and abrasion. It should be brushed with with soapy water. Pearls: Avoid chemicals, hair spray, perfume, perspiration. Do not boil or ultrasonic. Should not be stored in safe deposite box for long periods as light is needed. It should be wiped with soft, damp cloth after wearing.
Peridot: May fracture if heat-shocked. Avoid acids and ultrasonic. Soak in ammonia and brush clean.
Quartz: Avoid strong heat and abrupt temperature changes. Boiling and ultrasonic should be done with care. Soak in ammonia and brush.
Ruby and Sapphire: Boiling and ultrasonic generally safe. Soak in ammonia and brush. Water-pik with hot soapy water.
Spinel: It is okay with boiling and sonic. Ultrasonic should be used with care. Avoid? jewelers torch as the torch may fade light colors.? Soak, brush and water-pik are all okay.
Tanzanite: Do not boil or ultrasonic. Avoid hydrofluoric and hydrochloric acids. Soak in ammonia and brush. Clean accent stones with water-pik.
Topaz: Do not boil or ultrasonic. Soak in ammonia and brush. Clean accent stones with water-pik Turquoise: Do not boil or ultrasonic. Avoid acids, cosmetics and perspiration. Brush with ammonia, rinse and dry.
Zircon: Do not boil. Avoid high heat or strong light. It is okay with ultrasonic. Soak in ammonia, brush and water-pik.
